Barbara, age 73, worries about her daughter, Kachina, and what will happen when she can no longer care for her. Kachina, age 36, has a developmental disability due to a rare genetic condition. She is a cheerful person who loves meeting new friends. She never will be capable, however, of living independently. She needs a stable and safe home for life.

In Vermont, quality-based living options are scarce. Many adults like Kachina are placed in shared living arrangements that can be unstable, forcing individuals to move away from friends and community to a totally unfamiliar setting, contributing to feelings of isolation and loneliness.

L’Arche seeks to change this by creating a forever home for people with disabilities and their caregivers, where they can live, grow, and belong together—a community where the unique value of every person is cherished. We’re ready to build our first L’Arche home in southern Vermont on donated land near Brattleboro. This home will serve as a model for future communities, offering safety, connection, and dignity to people like Kachina.

Your support is essential. Every gift, large or small, brings us closer to making this vision a reality. Join Barbara, Kachina, and others in building a home filled with kindness, laughter, and belonging.

Make a gift today and help create a home in Southern Vermont that lasts a lifetime.
