L’Arche USA Engagement Specialist, Kyla Ponciano, offered her thoughts on this month’s value:
Listening is a very profound way to connect with others, which is so needed in our society. Not just listening, but active listening meaning that the other person is listening to you with respect, an open mind, and intent without interruptions, biases, or judgment. People value this. You can see in their faces that they are here in the present moment. They want to hear and understand what you are saying. They value you, your perspectives, and your opinions. Active listening is a very powerful gift that feels amazing. It feels like someone is taking time to get to know you, really getting to know you. It is like a warm hug that says, “I care.”
