Position Summary

The Federation directly supports and supervises communities that are not grouped together in one country, and provides support and advice to certain countries that have a national structure. This role of support, supervision and advice is carried out by International Delegates. They carry the Federation’s authority into the countries they accompany. The International Delegates ensure that the communities and countries they accompany are faithful to the Charter of the International Federation of L’Arche Communities in the context of their own culture.

Main responsibilities

  • Supporting and evaluating the different countries as they live out the mission of L’Arche
  • Supervising, supporting and evaluating International Envoys and National Leaders
  • Overseeing L’Arche’s development strategy in the countries and geographical areas they accompany
  • Developing human resources by leading key appointment processes and overseeing the implementation of HR policies
  • Monitoring and promoting fundraising strategies in the various countries and financial solidarity within the Federation.
  • Involvement in the governance of the Federation through participation in the International Leadership Team

Requirements of the role

Delegates:

  • are appointed, after approval by the International Leadership Team, by the Executive Director, to whom they report (as part of the L’Arche International 2024-2026 Mandate Implementation Plan)
  • collaborate with each other and with the Director of Operations
  • work closely with National Leaders, National Board Chairs and International Envoys
  • participate in international meetings (International Leadership Team, Federation Leadership meetings, specific working groups, etc.)
  • work in collaboration with members of the International Support Team
  • make a significant number of international trips to assigned countries and international meetings

Profile expected

  • Rooted in the vision, values and mission of L’Arche, with an ability to convey and communicate the mission
  • Cultural competence: the ability to understand, communicate and interact effectively with people of different cultures
  • Ability to integrate and willingness to apply the practice of inculturation
  • Ability to consider the impact of L’Arche International processes and guidelines in different cultural and religious contexts across the Federation
  • Strong management and organizational experience, including budget management and financial oversight
  • Ability to speak and write in one of the Federation’s two official languages (English/French). Knowledge of other languages, as required, to support countries and communities in this role
