L’Arche Cleveland was founded in 1975.  Today we operate four homes: one in Cleveland Heights, one in Maple Heights, and two in Cleveland. L’Arche Cleveland is a community of faith that seeks to respond to the needs of those who are too often rejected and give them a valid place in society by building homes with and for people who have developmental disabilities.   

For more than 32 years L’Arche Cleveland has continued to grow into a diverse community that strives to meet the needs and celebrate the gifts of each person, whether it’s our core people, our assistants, or our committed volunteers, supporters, and board members. 

As an agency, L’Arche Cleveland receives approximately 90% of its budget from state and county funding.  Government funding assures a “healthy and safe” environment for our core people. At the center of L’Arche Cleveland’s identity is providing a life in which health and safety includes a quality of life component for the entire community. 

The “living with” rather than “doing for” philosophy of L’Arche nourishes our core people and our assistants emotionally, physically, and spiritually. This nourishment is the crux of our faith community. The lived simplicity of daily life, retreats, formations, and gatherings will provide the opportunity for growth spiritually and as human beings. The wisdom of the gospel message will become a lived reality, an experience not easily found in our present fast-paced and self-focused world.
